HDGC DISTANCE SEMINARS - BULLETIN BOARD (fwd)
To All:
As you all know, keeping us all up to date on what we are all doing has
been a problem (particularly in the impacts focus area), but we have had an
idea. At the suggestion of Baruch and Granger, we will be starting a
series of distance seminars using an interactive bulletin board located on
The Center for Integrated Study of the Human Dimensions of Global
Change website (http://www.hdgc.epp.cmu.edu/mailinglists/hdgcctml/mail/) in
an effort to facilitate communication and to broaden collaboration. The
initial series will be organized around a unifying theme of indicators of
change, stress, impacts and vulnerability, but other themes and perhaps
even parallel series might emerge over time.
In any case, Gary Yohe of Wesleyan University will be the "guinea pig" for
the idea. His papers and powerpoint slides have been posted so that
participants can read and/or download both for review. Your comments,
suggestions and input on the paper, and the ensuing discussion will be
welcome. Submitted electronically through the website, Email to
(hdgc-current-topics@ece.cmu.edu) they will be posted so that all will be
able to be read and contribute to a post-mortem electronic discussion that
may go anywhere.
The list of potential participants in the series currently includes
faculty, researchers, and students located in Center associated
institutions; but we hope that it might grow over time. And we also hope
to conduct seminars every month until we run out of ideas? sometime around
the turn of the next century, I would expect. Please communicate your
interest in offering a paper and any other thoughts that you might have to
Gary Yohe at gyohe@wesleyan.edu.

written in stone
